Bommalattam goes to Hollywood?

Bharathiraja’s long awaited Bommalattam create history even before its release by becoming the first Tamil film to have red carpet premier in Hollywood. Announcing this at the audio release function of his magnum opus at Satyam Theatre complex on July 28, the veteran director said that he was thankful to the efforts of Nag Ravi of Insight Media that brought out the cassettes

and CD’s that Bommalattam will have its Hollywood premiere at Arc Light Cinemas — Dome, California next month. Stalwarts from the Tamil film industry, KRG, K Balachander, AVM Saravanan, Panju Arunachalam, Ilayaraja, Rama Narayanan, Kamal Haasan, Vijaya Kumar, cinematographer B Kannan and director KS Ravikumar offered felicitations. Himesh Reshammiya has composed the music for the Hindi-Tamil bilingual starring Nana Patekar, Arjun, Kajal Agarwal and Rukmini Vijayakumar. It is produced by US-based friends of the director, Pandian and Dr T Rajan.

Nana Patekar plays a film director and Arjun, a CBI officer. “What a wonderful performer Nana is,” cooed Bharathi Raja later at the press conference held at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce. “We shot the interrogation scene with him and Arjun at Goa’s sprawling Kala Academy. Nana learnt Tamil to deliver the dialogue during the shoot.

You will find a different Arjun in the film. The two heroines Kajal Agarwal and Rukmini whom I introduced with this film have already become busy in other language films as well, that speaks for their talent.” Bharathiraja puts the film in the suspense thriller genre. The Hindi version is titled, Cinema and the Telugu dubbed version as Kalidas. The film will have a simultaneous release in August.
